The unique vehicle compatibility database developed by JMDA Design enables compatibility of car seat designs to be established well before the design is finalised and tooling is initiated.
Through years of experience and the gathering of key installation data from vehicle seating, JMDA Design can assess the compatibility of the child car seat design in the early stages of the design process. Using 3D CAD data the suitability and optimised fit can be checked to ensure a broad compatibility with vehicle models from as early as 2006 to the present day. The vehicle seating criteria are contained within a unique database of more than 450 European models, 355 Chinese models and 200 Japanese models.
Chris Raynor, CRS Vehicle Compatibility Manager explains “The database we have developed has come about from years of capturing data and extensive experience in carrying out car seat fitting checks and analysis. It’s important for manufacturers, retailers and consumers that correct fitting of car seats is ensured so that safety is not compromised”. He explains “The data can be used to drive a virtual environment in our 3D CAD System. It gives our clients the extra knowledge and confidence that the product in development is compatible with as many cars as possible, maximising sales and minimising returns, especially with online sales.”
JMDA’s unique global seating database consists of measurements such as D-loop positions, belt buckle height/crunch-risk, isofix points, Top Tether location etc. All the measurements and information collected enables a desk top analysis to be carried out quickly and accurately. The JMDA fitting service covers 97% of the European passenger-car market and over 80% of the Chinese and Japanese markets.
The fitting list with virtual vehicle environment analysis allows for clear visualisation of fitting-problems and aids design improvements. Having the knowledge of correct fitting through the complete design phase ensures the overall design is optimised for installation and effectiveness through retail.
