NEW child car seat fitting-list now available for the Japanese Market

JMDA has expanded its unique child car seat vehicle fitting database and now offers a full fitting list for the Japanese market.

Japan is the home to many of the world’s most famous automobile manufacturers and produces some of the most recognisable cars the world over; it also has many unique products in its domestic car market.

JMDA’s technical team from the Vehicle Fitting Services Division recently spent a week in Japan adding to JMDA’s database, focusing particularly on the dominant Kei-Car segment. Kei is a Japanese category of small vehicles, including passenger cars, microvans and pickup trucks, which make them very popular in Japan’s often crowded urban and suburban areas, as well as popular in rural areas for providing low cost transportation.

The near 40% overall market penetration of this class of vehicle and the large number of different models means this is a critical sector in Japan; detailed research was necessary to add comprehensive data to JMDA’s database, along with other regular cars that are popular in Japan.

Suzuki, Honda and Daihatsu lead the market and have several models each, with Subaru, Nissan and Mitsubishi also having a strong presence. Toyota, unusually, offers few models as these are assembled by its subsidiary company Daihatsu. Toyota still has a considerable presence in its home market and sells the country’s bestselling single car, the Toyota Aqua hybrid, which JMDA was also able to measure. It also provides the ubiquitous Toyota Crown taxi sedan.
