JMDA Raise £1,950 For Blackmarston School
Product design consultancy JMDA Design have raised an impressive £1,950 for Blackmarston Special School in Hereford. The proceeds raised will help to build a new road safety garden at the school, providing a play scheme that is not only fun to use but also teaches important community life skills.
To mark their 25th Anniversary in business, Worcestershire based JMDA Design have celebrated with a series of fundraising activities as Official Corporate Sponsors of the children’s charity Wooden Spoon. Blackmarston Special School in Hereford has been awarded the £1,950 from Wooden Spoon to help with funding their new educational road, which will help with the development of road safety awareness.
Amongst some of their fundraising activities for Wooden Spoon, JMDA’s team participated in a charity raft race down the river Avon through Warwickshire. Six members of the team worked tirelessly to build a large raft humorously named ‘Usain Boat’ and raised over £600 for the charity. Product Design Engineer, Emma Harris took things one further by challenging herself to run the Edinburgh marathon which she completed in a remarkable 3 hours and 59 minutes, and raised over £1,300!
Director of JMDA, Cherril Barker explains “As corporate sponsors of Wooden Spoon, we’ve very much enjoyed taking part in various fundraising activities throughout the year to celebrate our 25th Anniversary in business. After visiting Blackmarston Special School and meeting the staff and children, we couldn’t be more delighted that the money raised is helping to develop a road safety play scheme.” Cherril adds “But it doesn’t just stop there! We’re now looking to take our fundraising efforts one step further, by helping this very special school raise money for equipment that can be used on the new play scheme”.
Claire Crump, Deputy Headteacher at Blackmarston School says “We are extremely grateful and would like to express our sincere thanks to Cherril and the staff at JMDA for all their hard work in fundraising. It is thanks to the support from them, Wooden Spoon and other supporters of the school that our dream of having an interactive roadway will now become a reality. We are delighted that JMDA wish to continue to support the project in the forthcoming year and look forward to work on the road commencing in the next few months.’
Founded in 1983 the Wooden Spoon are one of the country’s largest funders of respite and medical treatment centres, specialist playgrounds and sports activity centres. Work on the road safety garden for the children at Blackmarston Special School in Hereford is scheduled to begin in Spring 2017.
